NHTSA invites public comments about our intention to request approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for a new information collection. Before a Federal agency can collect certain information from the public, it must receive approval from OMB. Under procedures established by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, before seeking OMB approval, Federal agencies must solicit public comment on proposed collections of information, including new collections, extensions, and reinstatements of previously approved collections. This document describes a proposed collection of information that would allow NHTSA to obtain structured information on States' and territories' practices related to linking or integrating motor vehicle crash data with injury surveillance and medical data (e.g., emergency medical services (EMS), emergency department, hospital inpatient discharge, trauma registry, and vital statistics). The collection includes virtual stakeholder meetings, an online survey, and follow-up in-depth interviews with a subset of States to document current practices, challenges, and best practices in crash and injury surveillance data linkage and integration.
